The choices we make as parents can have lasting effects on our children. The decision of which kind of education we want for our kids is a choice that will be made by every parent sooner or later.

Due to the overwhelming amount of information about different curricula, some parents feel a little lost or confused when facing this big decision. What is it that makes the Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) unique and different from other international schools in Shanghai?  What are the benefits of an IB school?

Our school’s educational vision is far from the traditional approach that relies on memorizing concepts or facts, and spending long hours on homework. Our future-oriented approach to teaching and learning aligns with the demands of the contemporary world.

At WISS, we teach students to reflect on what they learn, link concepts, and develop critical thinking, all of which will help them deal with complex situations in university, their future careers, and daily life. This approach creates a “Culture of Inquiry.”

Through this “Culture of Inquiry,” our students are nurtured to be creative, think critically, and work effectively in groups. Our educational concept goes far beyond textbooks.

Our approach to teaching and learning puts skills and knowledge into practice. We know that students are better able to understand and remember when they can see for themselves how concepts are related and can be applied in the real world. That is why our mission is to give our students powerful tools that not only help them become active and engaged critical thinkers but empower them as they imagine their future.
