WISS teachers welcoming Grade 12 and Grade 10 students

We welcomed our Grade 12 and Grade 10 students back to campus. TheWestern International School of Shanghai is one of the first international schools in Shanghai to receive authorization to reopen its doors.

It is magical to see our campus come to life again with students and staff.

WISS students returning to campus

Vivien, Grade 10 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

It was really nice because I’ve just missed been on campus. So walking in and seeing all the teachers… It was definitely something unexpected. It was just great to see how we can go into school with all security checks and health checks.

What did you do all this time away from WISS?

I was basically at home all the time, just trying to finish my work. It was definitely hard (not being able) to socialize with other people.

What does the WISS community mean to you?

It’s like a second family because they try to involve (students) in as many things as possible. So it’s really welcoming.

What advice would you give to students who are going through this situation right now and can’t go back to school yet?

I would tell them to keep going through the school work. That is very important. But also try to stay in touch with people, definitely don’t lose those connections.

George, Grade 12 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

Well, it’s very different the security, I guess. It’s very strict, but then at the same time, you feel very safe.

How did you keep in touch with your classmates?

Social media! Haha!

What advice would you give to students who are going through this situation right now and can’t go back to school yet?

Manage your time and stay safe.

Shyla, Grade 12 student

What did you feel when you entered WISS?

It was good to see how organized WISS was and all the procedures, but it was also a very welcoming back to school after so long. Because this period of time has been longer than any other vacation we’ve had, it was very nice to be welcomed and to get back to school.

What does WISS community mean to you?

I feel like the WISS community takes care of everybody.

What advice would you give to students who are going through this situation right now and can’t go back to school yet?

They should try to do things that are better for themselves because students really don’t have the time to do that. Take care of yourself.

Joshua, Grade 12 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

It felt like (being) back to normal.

What, in your opinion, was the most challenging thing during the campus closure?

I guess maybe not seeing friends so much.

What advice would you give to students who are going through this situation right now and can’t go back to school yet?

I would say to keep proceeding doing work even though we know it’s hard. Don’t give up hope of coming back to school.

Cecilia, Grade 12 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

A lot of memories came back. I’ve been here at WISS for four years. It’s my senior year at WISS, and I just felt a lot of emotion.

Enric, Grade 12 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

It has been a long time, so I felt happy to be back and that things (are) slowly going to normality again. So I felt really happy to be back.

What does the WISS community mean to you?

During all this time, people from the WISS community have supported each other to feel better and helped others to feel better during these difficult times.

What advice would you give to students who are going through this situation right now and can’t go back to school yet?

Take it easy, don’t feel stress, and talk to others.

Are you happy to be back to WISS?

Yes, I’m so happy to be here again.

Sara, Grade 10 student

How did you feel when you entered WISS?

I felt very good, honestly. Teachers made a lot of effort… It was really exciting.

I guess the WISS community is like a second home.
