WISS opens its doors in Fall of 2006 with 17 students from Nursery to Grade 2 and ended the school year with 37 students. Year 2 of WISS in Fall 2007, enrollment rises to 171 across grades Nursery to Grade 8. The student body is represented by 21 nationalities.
In 2008, Saturday School begins when John Cucinello reaches out to children in the farmlands behind WISS and invites them to come learn English at WISS. Today, approximately 200 local migrant children come to WISS each week to learn English from our passionate students, parents and teachers.
The Secondary Building officially opens in the Fall of 2008 with Building A. Building B and C and the Science Wing quickly follow and are open for use in 2009.
In 2010 WISS takes learning out of the school buildings and into various parts of China with the Explore China program and globally to Cambodia for service learning.
WISS received PYP and DP accreditation in 2010 shortly followed by the MYP accreditation in 2012.
In 2012 WISS student demographics reaches 40 nationalities in our enrollment.
The Primary building and the swimming pool opens in the Fall of 2013. Orsini Theatre also opens with the inaugural performance- WISS student performers alongside ISTA Academy patrons and music superstars Andy Summers (The Police) and John Altman (Titanic, Monty Python).
Fall of 2014 WISS partners with ISTA Performing Arts Academy and Stoke City FC bringing in world class practitioners and athletes to bring our arts and football program to the next level.
In 2016, John Cucinello, Director of Community Service is awarded the prestigious Magnolia Award from the city of Shanghai for his efforts in Saturday School and other service projects in the Xujing area community.
In 2017, WISS receives accreditation for the Career-Related Programme which makes WISS the first four programme IB school in mainland China
