away from home
Parents, staff, and students joining the Western International School of Shanghai often remark how warmly they are welcomed and how instantly they find a family at WISS.
The Western International School of Shanghai prides itself on its warm, caring, and compassionate community. We believe that the people that make up a school community are what make the school community. As an IB World school, the WISS community is dedicated to the IB Mission of developing “inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect and encouraging students “to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners.”
We are diverse,
but also local
Our community represents over 50 different nationalities, offering a truly international learning environment, while still fostering an appreciation and respect for our host country through our well-developed Mandarin Language and Literature classes and the relationships we’ve built by being actively engaged in our local community.
We serve, we learn,
and we love
Our community service programs enable our young people to help others and by doing so acquire a greater understanding of what it means to be an inspiration to those around them. Whether our students are with us for a year or two or stay through to graduation and move on to the university of their dreams, we want our young people to look back on their time at WISS as a time when their love of learning was awakened and they began to touch the lives of those around them.
We are not only a school,
we are a community
Through our involved parents association, our caring staff, our growing alumni base, and our compassionate student body we have built a community at WISS that is unlike any other international school in Shanghai. Come and visit us to see why so many families have chosen to call the Western International School of Shanghai home.
