WISS counselors are always here to help students through navigating the transitions and challenges of life
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) assistance is offered for students from Pre-Nursery to Grade 12. WISS is well-equipped with counselors, learning support specialist, and a school psychologist who are trained to support the needs of our global student body. Our counselors are proactive about helping students find their voice and building a set of skills including self and social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Social Emotional Support
Beginning early in life, social and emotional learning (SEL) is highly important for helping our youngest learners understand and manage their emotions, feel and show empathy for others, establish healthy relationships, set positive goals, and make responsible decisions. Early Years follows the Second Step program, which gives students the skills to manage their emotions and feelings and encourages healthy age-appropriate development.
In the Primary, social and emotional learning (SEL) enhances students’ abilities to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve personal and academic goals, show respect and empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible and ethical decisions.
In order for students to experience success as learners at WISS, it is important for our students to be socially and emotionally healthy. They should have a good understanding of who they are as individuals so that they can manage their daily activities, understand the perspectives of their peers, and make sound choices about personal and social decisions. As is typical amongst teenagers who are experiencing a range of emotions and are, at times, testing boundaries, they may experience difficulty staying on course in socially and emotionally healthy ways. Our school counselors are here to help with any issues that students may be facing. The WISS counseling approach aims at facilitating self-knowledge and growth in order to assist students in resolving personal issues for themselves.
