University Careers Counseling
The Western International School of Shanghai offers any WISS student academic support who needs. The counseling department provides a safe environment to help students set their academic goals to excel and grow. The goal of academic support is to remove barriers to learning to encourage each student to meet their potential. Academic support is generally in the areas of Math, Literacy, organizational skills, time management, and academic skills such as listening/writing. Additionally, equality of access to the curriculum for all students, including those who learn English as an Additional Language (EAL), is ensured by both direct language support from specialist teachers and a whole school approach in the daily classroom.

Early Years
Early Years is a play-based curriculum so academic support has a different focus, student’s academic assistance would be in the areas of either language and communication or sensory and motor development.
Language and Communication: As one of the major developmental tasks in early childhood, learning to communicate is key for children to interact with the persons in their world and to have their needs met. Communication development for young children includes gaining the skills to understand and to express thoughts, feelings, and information.
Sensory and Motor Development: Sensory and Motor development plays an important role in learning- young children typically use motor skills to explore the environment, engage in social interactions, engage in physical activities, and develop basic academic skills, such as handwriting.
