Einstein once said, “If I had not been a scientist, I would have been a musician.  Life without playing music is inconceivable for me.  I live my daydreams in music.  I see my life in terms of music; I get most joy in life out of music.”

Research shows that learning to play an instrument stimulates the brain, improving memory function and developing abstract reasoning skills, essential for maths and science.  In addition, music training promotes self-expression develops self-confidence, imaginative thinking, creative problem-solving, and respect for others.  These elements describe the distinct characteristics of a WISS student.

The Western International School of Shanghai is dedicated to nurturing student development through Creative Arts, integrating music as part of the WISS curriculum.   At WISS, we believe that Creative Arts are an essential part of our student’s education, and learning music is a positive experience.

WISS Music Instrumental Program offers students the opportunity to broaden their horizons, learn to play an instrument, and develop essential skills needed for success in the 21st Century.  The Instrumental Program offers sophisticated and professional music learning opportunities for students led by expert music instructors who guide students to acquire an understanding of music and fundamental performance skills, which culminates in annual student recitals.  The program offers a wide range of instruments which include the Piano, Flute, Drums, and Guitar/Bass Guitar lessons.
