VISION AND HEARING: Early childhood development can be negatively affected by poor eyesight or poor hearing. Oftentimes, vision and hearing problems are not easily detected by casual observation. Young children often do not complain about not being able to see or hear, because they do not know they should be seeing or hearing any other way. Early detection of a potential problem is crucial and that is why a thorough screening is recommended.
SPEECH AND LANGUAGE: Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) work closely with babies, children, and teenagers who have various levels of speech, language, and communication problems, and with those who have swallowing, drinking, or eating difficulties. SLPs can work with children who have difficulty with fluency, articulation, or pronunciation, with children who have trouble understanding others or expressing themselves, and with children who have trouble with social communication.
If you have concerns about your child’s speech and language development, or your child’s teacher(s) have indicated potential areas of concern, a screening can be useful tool to determine if your child’s skills are appropriate for his or her age or require further assessment.
DENTAL: The sooner children begin getting regular dental checkups, the healthier their mouths will stay throughout their lives. Early checkups help prevent cavities and tooth decay, which can lead to pain, trouble concentrating and other medical issues. Youngsters with healthy teeth chew food easily, learn to speak clearly and smile with confidence.
