The IB Programmes

Our IB Programmes at Wiss

The Western International School of Shanghai is the first and only full-continuum IB World School in mainland China offering the four programmes of the International Baccalaureate (IB):

This allows us to provide the entire and unbroken IB curriculum model leading to the most sought after qualification for university entry in the world.

At WISS, we are dedicated to the IB Mission of creating a better world through education. As an IB World School, WISS has been visited, inspected, and approved by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

IB World Schools maintain their high quality through regular professional development of staff, effective delivery of cutting-edge teaching practice, and a rigorous approach to inquiry-based learning. Schools authorized by the IB must put students at the center of everything they do, treat learning holistically from multiple perspectives, emphasize strong communication skills, and promote intercultural awareness. The IB carries out regular evaluations to ensure schools provide a culture of learning in line with its international philosophy and goals.

Overview of the IBO

The International Baccalaureate Organization is a non-profit educational organization that was established in 1968. It is governed by a 17-member Council of Foundation and is funded by fees from IB world schools with additional income from workshops and catalog sales. Donors provide support for development projects that otherwise cannot be implemented from the organization’s budget.

IBO Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
