THE FACILITIES


Bordered by rivers on both sides of the school grounds, WISS offers a spacious campus spread over 16 acres, making it one of the physically largest campuses in Shanghai.


State-of-the-art buildings, boasting natural light and space through the use of garden atriums, high ceilings and skylights, create a secure environment for students to learn. The landscaped grounds make use of courtyards, terraces and gardens to create a safe and stimulating play environment.


The campus has been designed by the Weimar Architects AG in Weimar, Germany. Weimar is the home of the Bauhaus University, which brought to life the most influential architectural movement of the 20th century.


Weimar has worked with the School Board to design an elegant multifunctional facility that serves the educational needs of students at every level.

Early Years Education Center 


Our Early Years Education Center is a 3,500 meter square facility which uses environmentally friendly building materials and natural light to create the perfect home for our children from 2 1/2 to 5 years old, complete with its own music room and kitchen. Our Early Years classrooms are spacious, containing sand and water trays, multi-purpose areas, as well as all the resources and educational technology needed to make learning and play fun. Bathrooms and lunch areas are right beside every class. Indoor play is made easy with our 210 meter square safety-first Community Room. Outside play is also emphasized with interactive climbing frames, a mini soccer pitch, and our sand pit. All outside play areas are on protective plastic floor covering, with sun shades for those warm summer days, all to ensure our children remain safe and engaged. For more fun, learning and adventure, we have our little bamboo forest leading to the vegetable patch and our romper room.


Primary School


The Primary School Building has 16 state-of-the-art classrooms, each complete with computers, smart boards, air purifiers, sinks, and cubbies to keep our children’s belongings tidy and safe. On the first floor we have our Library, and Primary Reception to help support and inform our parents and children. Each of our five floors has elevator access, bathrooms, and wide, bright corridors affording our young people great views of the WISS campus and giving them a window to see life across the local community. Floor 3 opens into our WISS Art Wing and floor five is home to our music and instrumental specialists. Outside play and sports use our Primary-Level climbing and activity area, our basketball court, soccer field, and our athletics field.


Secondary School


The Secondary School Building has 14 new classrooms designed specifically with the needs of 11 to 18 year olds in mind, including in-class lockers, Audio-Visual equipment for presentations, and T1 Line wireless internet for easy access anywhere. Colour printers, photocopiers and scanners are available for students to use at their convenience. Math, English, Chinese, Humanities, Technology, Art, Drama, Music, English as an Additional Language and Learning Support facilities give students a greater sense of independence and variety as they move from subject to subject. On the second floor students can cross a bridge to our Science Wing with state-of-the-art Physics, Chemistry and Biology Laboratories. Students can also access our Classroom Theater for performances, recitals and movie screenings. The third floor gives access to the Art Wing and Art Studio, and above is our Organic Greenhouse. The Senior Student Common Room is on the top floor, giving G9 to G12 students a chance to relax, chat, and listen to music.


Pool Building


Our glass-walled pool building continues the open and spacious theme allowing parents and friends to watch students as they build pool skills as well as compete in races and aquatic sports. The adjacent mini-gymnasium and ballet rooms allow students to practice their gymnastics, movement and related sports science disciplines.


Gymnasium / 500 Seat Theater


Our Gymnasium is usually set up for Sports and as well as being laid out for over a dozen indoor events, the Gym can open one wall out onto our ornamental Grass Quad. If you look closely you will see the walls of the Gym are specially designed to provide perfect acoustics for Theater and Community events. When the Gym is converted to our 500 Seat Theater, advanced sound and lighting equipment with open-plan seating allow a wide range of shows to be staged, with open-air recitals and performances through into our Grass Quad to create the perfect afternoon and evening events.


Ornamental Grass Quad and Oriental Courtyard


The spaces between our main buildings are used to maximum effect with oriental trees, bushes and flowers, with grassed areas for reading and benches for relaxing and surfing the web. The Ornamental Grass Quad connects directly to the Gymnasium / Theater and the WISS Café.


WISS Café


Our internationally catered Café at WISS serves up a variety of hot and cold beverages and snacks for students , parents, staff and visitors what something light while they browse the internet or read the newspaper. With indoor and outdoor seating, the WISS Café relaxing all year round.
