Anne Drouet

Anne Drouet

Director of Performing Arts

Hailing from the UK, Ms. Drouet graduated with a BSc Honors in Music from City University with piano studies at the London Guildhall School of Music. She has taught Music and Musical Theatre for over 19 years internationally and in the UK. Under her artiste name of Anne Wu, Ms. Drouet has composed for Weinstein Films, the International Labour Organisation and for performing arts festivals and theatre projects in the international school community. She is an IB Diploma Music Examiner and a Member Practitioner for International Schools Theatre Association, ISTA. Ms. Drouet has enjoyed teaching students from different cultures and musical abilities, from students who were complete beginners to the young Amy Winehouse and Leona Lewis.

Richard Smart

Richard Smart

Director of Music

Mr. Smart was born near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He toured Western Canada with a variety of bands for a number of years before returning to university in Edmonton to get his Bachelor of Education Degree. He taught instrumental and choral music at the elementary and junior high level in Edmonton until he took his first overseas position teaching PYP music in Muscat, Oman. From Muscat he moved to Cairo, Egypt where he taught primary and secondary music and took on the position of department head of Primary Music. He is thrilled to be part of the growing WISS family.

Stephen Walker

Stephen Walker

Director of Sport

Stephen is originally from the UK, where he played professional football for Portsmouth F.C until he was 15 years old, Stephen graduated Colchester University with a degree in sport science and coaching. After coaching in schools in the U.K, he decided to move to Shanghai and having taught and coached in most of the International schools around Shanghai he has now settled into his role as Director of Sport at WISS. When Mr. Walker is not teaching P.E you can find him trying to play football.

Liz Jones

Liz Jones

Director of Visual Arts

Liz Jones is from the UK. She has taught in China for over 5 years covering the entire IB programme during that time and adores the diversity that international teaching affords. Liz started her teaching career in New Zealand, which is where she lived for 7 years. This career has subsequently taken her to Europe and Asia. Her loves include theatre, cycling, picture books, IT, travel and of course her family who are all here at WISS. Liz gained an Honours Degree in Jewelry with a subsidiary in Constructed Textiles some years ago. She is an effervescent character who never has colour far away from her!

Jose Manuel Gamito Gonzalez

Jose Manuel Gamito Gonzalez

Head of Learning Support / Learning Support Teacher

Jose is from Spain. He has worked for 20 years in school counseling and special education in a variety of environments, from public and private schools in Spain to international schools in the Middle East.  Jose has a Master’s degree in Education and PhD in Social Psychology. He is married and has two sons at WISS. His love for falconry, as the bond of brotherhood between peoples and intangible heritage of humanity, led him to use falconry as an educational resource for students with socio-emotional problems.

Christina Decu

Christina Decu

Director of Admissions and Marketing

Mrs Christina Decu has lived in Sweden, Germany, the USA and since 1992 in Shanghai, China. Her background is tourism but she worked many years in finance and added eventually a China MBA. She got involved in education while being part of establishing the German school in Shanghai mid of the 90th and works now already for many years in International Admissions. She loves the diverse community of WISS and is a full believer in the IB philosophy – both of her children graduated with the IB diploma. Her hobbies include traveling, her dogs and cooking.

Fred Ding

Administrative Manager

Mr. Ding received his BS from East China University of Science and Technology and completed the Master of Commerce at the University of Sydney. He has worked as a mentor in USYD Mentor programme to support and encourage a small group of new postgraduates in building personal networks and sharing experiences.

Xiao Lan Gu

Logistics Manager

Ms. Gu brings to WISS the expertise she has developed in managing transportation and logistics through 12 years’ experience at other international schools. Xiao Lan is happy to join WISS and serve the needs of all its students and families.

Yu-Lin Phavicitr

Yu-Lin Phavicitr

HR Director

Mrs. Phavichitr grew up in Taiwan, emmigrated to South America when she was a teenager. She received BS and MS in Accounting from Long Island University, Brooklyn, NY. She also received the CPA license and worked many years in private accounting in New York City. She returned to work in an import and wholesale business in duty free port, ZOFRI, Iquique, Chile for 2.5 years, before relocating to Shanghai in Feb. 2000. In Shanghai she found a new horizon by working in international schools. She feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with the wonderful group of people and leaders at WISS.

Arlene Kline

Arlene Kline

Director of Technology

Arlene was born in Northern Ireland and has worked in London, Spain, Holland, and Israel before coming to China. With a strong background in computer design and technology, Arlene has worked in the IT industry in the UK since 1995, teaching IT, managing projects and providing IT consultancy services to many Fortune 500 companies. Arlene prides herself on nurturing confidence, competence and creativity with technology. She enjoys leveraging technology to support the educational goals of the school. Arlene has a Bachelor of Art degree in Fine Craft Design and a Master of Science degree in Computing & Design from the University of Ulster. Her son Ethan is also part of the WISS family.

Fiona Collins

Fiona Collins

Head Librarian / Deputy Principal

Ms. Collins is from Scotland and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Library and Information Studies from the Robert Gordon University. She has worked as a Librarian in both British Curriculum and IB schools in Hong Kong and Shanghai. Since leaving Scotland in 1994, Ms. Collins has lived in Turkey; Germany; Hong Kong and Shanghai. She is passionate about children’s literature and enjoys working with students of all ages to encourage a lifelong love of reading and to help them develop their research skills.

Rui Cunha

Rui Cunha

Theatre Manager

Rui, or Rui da Cunha if he wants to be taken seriously, was founder of the theater company Projectos Ad Hoc, where he was playwriter, actor and technician. He worked as Light technician in Teatro Viriato, Viseu, Portugal, and then he was the Technical Coordinator in the same theater. He worked as a freelance Light Designer for dance, theater and music companies where he toured around the world. He worked for Ista, International School Theater Association, teaching tech in international schools. He is WISS’s new Theatre Manager and working with the Artistic Director in the theatre.

John Cucinello

John Cucinello

Director of Community and Service

Mr. Cucinello was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1956. He received a BA in English Literature from St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1981 and a Masters of Science in Education (reading) in 1994 from Long Island University . He has taught in the Bronx Public Schools for 11 years, and Yonkers, New York (5) years as well as (2) years in Saudi Arabia. John has PYP, DP and MYP experience. John speaks Spanish and English and has worked as a professional storyteller performing oral retellings of Homer’s The Odyssey.

Jessica Gu

Jessica Gu

Facility Manager

Jessica Gu has a Master’s Degree in Accounting awarded by the University of New England in Australia. She is a member of CPA Australia. She has worked in many different industries: in trading, in education and in environmental,  in both China and Australia. She attended the 18th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting held in Japan in 2010. She is pleased to be a part of WISS!
