Early Years School Principal

Originally from the UK, Fiona Morris has been working internationally since 2005, having worked extensively at schools in England. Fiona is a strong advocate of inquiry based learning, with many years experience as a teacher and administrator in the PYP. WISS is Fiona’s third IB school, having worked widely in Asia and Europe after leaving the UK to work with children around the world. Fiona has been Lead Teacher at the Prague British School, Junior School Coordinator at the International School of Ho Chi Minh City, and Early Years Coordinator at WISS from 2006 to 2009. Fiona holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education.

Early Years Deputy Principal / Nursery Blue Teacher

Lisa gained her Early Years Education diploma in 2001 and worked within both mainstream and Special Education schools in her home town in Scotland. She is also trained as a Communication Support Worker, working with Deaf children and their families and is proficient in British Sign Langauge.  Lisa has since gained her BA (Hons) Childhood Studies and moved to Shanghai in 2010 where she has taught Foundation Stage in an International School. She lives in Shanghai with her husband and daughter. Lisa values the uniqueness of each child.

Amy Kent is from the Hudson Valley of New York and received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education grades 1-6 from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. An educator since 2005 with and a strong PYP background, Amy enjoys being involved in the discoveries that children gain through their education. Amy believes as an international school it is our responsibility to create global citizens for the future. Part of that is having parents, teachers, and students work together; to foster a positive learning experience for everyone and give students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Andeena Walsh is from New Zealand, but grew up in sunny Australia. During her time abroad she has lived in Venezuela and China. She holds a TESOL certification, a Certificate III in Early Childhood, and is currently furthering her education in Early Childhood. Andeena has been an Early Childhood educator for Pre-Nursery through to Pre-Kindergarten students for over 15 years, and is happy to be part of the WISS community along side her husband Noel, and children: Arianna and Marcus. During her free time you can find her baking cupcakes or making a creative mess. She enjoys getting messy and creative by engaging her students through exploration and inquiry.

Fiona Cao is originally from Shan’xi, China, and is now living in Shanghai with her daughter. She served as an assistant teacher at the The Racquet Club for 7 years and an assistant teacher at the Shanghai British International School for 2 years. She loves to be with children and promotes edutainment. She believes that in the process of playing, it is easier for children to understand and accept new things and new knowledge through real-time guidance. She is also interested in hand crafts, DIY and decorations. During the holidays she enjoys traveling with family and friends!

Ms. Long graduated from Beijing Normal University majoring in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics on a scholarship. She has been working as a Chinese foreign language teacher in universities and training centers for many years. She also worked in Singapore, where she taught secondary students Mandarin.

Ms. Silvia Segura is from Seville, Spain. Silvia has been working as a teacher assistant in different fields since 2000. She has completed numerous courses and workshops related to special education. She previously lived in Dubai where she worked as an assistant teacher with a group of autistic children in grade 1, and teaching Spanish language. She has extensive experience and knowledge in nursing.  Her hobbies include trekking, cooking Spanish food (especially paella) and flying falcons with her husband. She has 2 children at WISS.

Star Jiang is from Zhejiang province in the southwest of China and graduated from Nanjing institute of Tourism and Hospitality.  She got an internship in UAE and worked there for more than one year.  She has a loving and caring nature.  She enjoys working with children and sharing the special moments in their lives as well as providing them with helpful advice.  In her spare time, she likes watching movies, shopping with friends and traveling with her family.

Mr. James Murphy is from the United States and has a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education. He has been working as an international Early Years educator for the past 12 years in Bangkok, Thailand. James is passionate about education and strives to make his classroom a safe, nurturing space where students are engaged, inspired and happy! He is excited to now be living in Shanghai and likes to spend his holidays traveling and experiencing all the wonders that China and Asia have to offer. Sharon Song graduated from Three Gorges University with a Bachelor Degree in English Linguistic Literature in 2005 where she was also awarded a Diploma in Teaching. She is an experienced teacher, having taught at both Public and International schools. She is enthusiastic about teaching children, especially when seeing how their knowledge grows. Sharon likes to share her love of dancing and singing with the children and feels very proud of their accomplishments in school productions. She enjoys telling stories and traveling. Sharon is looking forward to another year teaching in Nursery.

Tahu is  from New Zealand and has worked as a PYP Kindergarten homeroom teacher in Doha, Qatar. He attained his Degree in Early Childhood Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Bilingual Education from Canterbury University. He has over ten years of experience teaching from Nursery through to Kindergarten. Tahu is joined at WISS by his wife Sharon and his two children Beth and Tiaki. He likes to spend his spare time on a rugby field coaching and playing. In between games he likes to read and explore the local sights.

Winnie is originally from Shanghai, China. She graduated from East China Normal University in 2011 and was awarded a national certification of Early Childhood Education in 2013. Victoria is from the UK. She has been living in Shanghai since August 2011. Previous to this, Victoria has been teaching in London and Cornwall, where she taught children aged between 3-11 years. Victoria has vast experience in Early Years, and has a wide range of curriculum models and pedagogical approaches. Back in the UK, Victoria trained as a forest school specialist and is a big advocate of the outdoors, and of the environment being a third educator. Victoria graduated from Roehampton University with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in 2011.

She aims to provide a healthy and nurturing learning environment that fosters confidence and encourages children to reach their full potential. Serena also loves to travel with her family and is a keen baker.

Lynn Zheng comes from China and holds a Master’s of Science degree from Uppsala University in Sweden. After working in fields from business to administration, she started to work with children in Shanghai where she focused on child psychology. Lynn Is curious about many things-she  enjoys travelling and is learning Spanish. She also is a good communicator, patient, creative and open-minded. Lynn loves working with her students, sharing experiences and providing support in their explorations.

Ruth is from Virginia in the United States, which she called home until she moved to Spain to study. She graduated with a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature and went on to further her Spanish ability in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer. She was placed in the education sector, and it was there that she fell in love with teaching. Ruth moved to Shanghai in 2012 where she taught at a bilingual pre-school while completing her teaching certificate and Masters in Elementary Education. Ruth enjoys running, socializing, and traveling. She believes her profession is the most fun one there is!

Ayuki graduated from Manshan Teachers College with a major in pre-school education.  She holds a certificate for both Pre-school Teaching and Mandarin Teaching.  Ayuki previously taught Mandarin within an international school for six years.  In the classroom she encourages students to voice their opinions and to approach learning in a positive way.  She believes that learning should be personalized and that listening to the children is a very important part of this.  Ayuki is also interested in socializing with friends, learning more about different cultures and being compassionate towards others.  She enjoys working with children and dedicates her time to educating them and learning from them.

Ms. Donna Tang is from Jiangsu Province. She has been living in Shanghai since 2007. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a certificate for Pre-school Teaching. She has been working in bilingual kindergartens since 2009. Donna had created her own business for Pre-school Education in 2015, but now she is pleased to be a part of WISS. She likes to stay with children. She thinks the best way of teaching is love, and the best way to express love is to cheer, encourage and admire. Donna likes cooking and sports in her spare time.

Ms. Mariana Olivares comes from Caracas, Venezuela. She gained her Early Childhood Education degree in 2007 and has spent the last eight years living abroad in both the USA and China. She has spent the last three years living in Ningbo working in a international school in the IB Early Years Program. Mariana has worked in the education field for more than eight years. She enjoys being around kids very much and is very passionate about making the world a better place through education. Mariana loves her dogs and enjoys going for long walks. She also enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures.

Noel is originally from Ireland but moved to Cambridge, England where he worked and studied for 13 years. While studying at Cambridge, Noel gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in combined English and Film. Noel has subsequently completed a PGCE and MA in International Education. He has been working as a teacher, in a variety of age groups, from Reception to First Grade since 2006. Noel strives to bring out the most in students so they can become independent, life-long learners. Noel is joined at WISS by his son Marcus.

Ms. Nicole Merrick is originally from Arizona, United States where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Master’s degree in Education (Curriculum and Instruction). She has taught for over 10 years teaching native English-speaking students and ESL students in Kindergarten and Primary grade levels. Nicole has spent her teaching career in various countries, including the United States, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, and Germany. She is pleased to be joining WISS and is looking forward to helping students reach their full potential, while building a classroom community full of compassion and creativity. Nicole enjoys getting her students excited about their learning. Her outside interests include dancing, traveling, and scuba diving.

Miss Faith is from Shanghai, China, and has been teaching since 2010. Faith has a bachelor’s degree in Law, and multiple qualifications in teaching as well as having specialized in language training. Ms. Leslie Holm is from Memphis, TN, in the United States and has spent the last 20 years teaching kindergarten, first, second and third grade in public, private and international schools. She has been living in China for the past four years and enjoys traveling to other Asian and European countries, walking her beloved Chihuahua-Bella, hiking, biking, swimming, and reading during her free time. She has three grown children and will become a first time grandmother this year. Her educational philosophy can be summarized in a quote by Benjamin Franklin “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, involve me and I learn.” She is very happy to be a part of WISS.

Ella Yang holds a bachelor degree of Chinese Language and Literature as well as a diploma in Early Childhood Education. Ella has 2 years bilingual school and 5 years international school teaching experience. She believes that teachers are the models children learn from, the more playful, creative and aware the teacher, the richer the experience for children, and the more hopeful the future will be for them! Ella loves reading, cooking and Chinese painting!

Lissy has a BA degree in Translation and an LLM degree in International Business Law. She loves to be with children. During her undergraduate studies in Shanghai, she was a volunteer at a teaching programme for primary schools for children of immigrant workers in the Songjiang District. When she was studying in the UK, she took part in the Teddy Bear Hospital programme which aims to reduce childhood anxiety in a hospital environment. Before joining WISS, she worked as a teaching assistant in an English learning centre and is now pleased to be a member of the WISS family.

Lisa is from Wales and gained a B.Ed Primary (Honours) at the University of Gloucestershire. She began her teaching career in London and has since taught EAL learners in both Primary and Secondary schools in addition to College and University in the UK. Lisa enjoys travel and has previously taught in Japan and the Philippines. On returning to the UK, she worked as an Education Authority School Improvement Advisor for EAL. Missing Asia, she moved with her family to Shanghai in 2011 and was Head of EAL at an international school before joining WISS. Lisa is enthusiastic about teaching EAL within the PYP curriculum; encouraging and supporting the language acquisition of those children new to English within the WISS community.

Mrs. Faye White is predominately from North Carolina with a childhood background of various moves to different states and the U.A.E. Faye has a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Faye has taught middle and high school E.S.L., first grade E.S.L., third grade E.S.L., and third grade mainstream. Her hobbies include running, writing, crafting, traveling, and bike riding with her husband Patrick. Faye has always enjoyed working with students to develop a love for literacy and creativity within the classroom.

Jose is from Spain. He has worked for 20 years in school counseling and special education in a variety of environments, from public and private schools in Spain to international schools in the Middle East.  Jose has a Master’s degree in Education and PhD in Social Psychology. He is married and has two sons at WISS. His love for falconry, as the bond of brotherhood between peoples and intangible heritage of humanity, led him to use falconry as an educational resource for students with socio-emotional problems.

Vanessa Avery is from Australia and brings almost two decades of classroom teaching and learning support experience to WISS. Vanessa has a Bachelor of Arts with Diploma of Education, Majoring in Special Education. Vanessa loves working with children and helping to unlock their creativity and potential. She loves creating supportive learning environments to encourage children to thrive and grow. Vanessa has worked across a variety of school settings, from remote Aboriginal communities to inner city Sydney. Her time at The Korowal School in the Blue Mountains developed her understanding and appreciation for the importance of educating the whole human being. Vanessa is joined by her three sons and husband.

Ms. Parker Watson is from Kansas in the United States. She studied at the University of Kansas and obtained her degree in Physical and Health Education. She left Kuwait after three years to come to Shanghai and join our WISS community. Parker has many hobbies most of which involve being outdoors or doing something sporty. She enjoys traveling to new countries and exploring everything they can offer both culturally and geographically. Parker loves teaching physical education, watching the students self-discover and achieve things they never thought they could is one of her biggest teaching thrills.

Ms Lu is a former Olympic swimmer and has represented China at many international games around the world, including taking the silver medal at the Swimming World Cup. Ms Lu has been an educator, swimming teacher, and pool manager for 12 years and wants to use her expertise to help the young people at WISS to unlock their sporting potential.

Deborah Paul has taught Art in India, Vietnam, and most recently, Italy. Her teaching experience began in Yonkers, N.Y., and at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Deborah has a Masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University and a Teaching Certification from New York State. A “third culture kid” herself, Ms. Paul grew up in the U.S., U.K., and The Netherlands. Her hobbies include traveling, visiting Art museums with her husband Will, and playing with her Golden Retriever, Lucy. She enjoys engaging with students in their discovery of Art and is very excited to be a part of WISS.

Mr. Levi Allison is from the United States but has spent the last few years working in the US and Kuwait. Levi has a Bachelors Degree in Music Education and a TESOL Certificate. Levi went into teaching to foster musical appreciation and to support musical growth in all students. His hobbies include an interest in musical theatre, socializing with friends and playing the trumpet. He enjoys watching students grow in their musical endeavors.

Anne has a Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering.  Her hobbies include traveling and watching movies.  She loves to children especially guiding them in their growth and development.  Before joining WISS, she worked in an English learning center as a teaching assistant.  She’s enthusiastic about learning and full of passion for life.  She enjoys working in an energetic educational environment and likes to meet with people from all over the world.  Anne is so pleased to be a part of WISS.

Early Years Teaching Assistant (Art)

Xiao Mei works to ensure the smooth running of Early Years as part of the Early Years office.  She is in charge of materials and other resources that every teacher needs as well as supporting teachers in the classroom.  She enjoys spending her spare time knitting and cooking. Xiao Mei enjoys her life more because she is part of the WISS family; a community full of love from every family and staff member.

Roshiley Tilistyak

Nurse Coordinator

Roshiley holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and, as well as general nursing experience, has been a school nurse at another international school in Shanghai. With her team of nurses, Roshiley provides health support to the WISS community and coordinates between parents and school. Roshiley moved to Shanghai from the Philippines with her husband, Denes, and two wonderful boys, Mark and Charles.

Early Years Nurse

Ms Zhou graduated from North China Coal Medical University where she received a Bachelor of Nursing after finishing five years’ intensive training in nursing. She has worked as a nurse in a local hospital in Shanghai for three years and loves working with children at WISS
