Lisa gained her Early Years Education diploma in 2001 and worked within both mainstream and Special Education schools in her home town in Scotland. She is also trained as a Communication Support Worker, working with Deaf children and their families and is proficient in British Sign Langauge.  Lisa has since gained her BA (Hons) Childhood Studies and moved to Shanghai in 2010 where she has taught Foundation Stage in an International School. She lives in Shanghai with her husband and daughter. Lisa values the uniqueness of each child.

Amy Kent is from the Hudson Valley of New York and received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education and Special Education grades 1-6 from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York. An educator since 2005 with and a strong PYP background, Amy enjoys being involved in the discoveries that children gain through their education. Amy believes as an international school it is our responsibility to create global citizens for the future. Part of that is having parents, teachers, and students work together; to foster a positive learning experience for everyone and give students the opportunity to reach their full potential.

After earning her degree and certification for Early Childhood Education at East China Normal University, Ms. Yin began to study how to teach Mandarin and earned a BA from the Department of International Chinese. She taught for seven years in the Shanghai Public Schools and after five years teaching at two different International Schools of Shanghai, she studied and earned her certification of Mentality Consultation Assistant.

Miss Faith is from Shanghai, China, and has been teaching since 2010. Faith has a bachelor’s degree in Law, and multiple qualifications in teaching as well as having specialized in language training. Her hobbies include traveling and music. She has traveled to the America, Japan, The Philippines and Hong Kong, and loves experiencing and exploring different cultures. Faith believes that the best way of learning is to learn by doing, experiential learning is the most fun, learner-centered, therefore, the most engaging way of learning. Faith is so excited to be a part of the WISS community!

Lissy has a BA degree in Translation and an LLM degree in International Business Law. She loves to be with children. During her undergraduate studies in Shanghai, she was a volunteer at a teaching programme for primary schools for children of immigrant workers in the Songjiang District. When she was studying in the UK, she took part in the Teddy Bear Hospital programme which aims to reduce childhood anxiety in a hospital environment. Before joining WISS, she worked as a teaching assistant in an English learning centre and is now pleased to be a member of the WISS family.

Born in San Francisco, Meghan’s inspiration to work with children began in 2001 as a children’s dance teacher. Since then, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Child Development from San Francisco State University. Meghan was also awarded the Distinguished Achievement Award and graduated at the top of her class with her M.A. in Early Childhood Education. Through inquiry/project-based approaches, Meghan places heavy emphasis on the “learner” and believes in both adults and children equally co-constructing their own learning.

Laura Gao is Shanghainese and graduated from Shanghai Normal University with a Bachelor’s in English and later earned a Diploma in Teaching. She has previously worked at a Youth Activity Center as an Activity Teacher and at Shanghai ChangNing Community School as a Teaching Assistant. Laura is passionate about working with children to help them learn. She enjoys learning about what each student likes and is excited about giving them the opportunity to be a Risk-taker and try new things. Her hobbies include traveling, music, reading, sports, and history.

Ms. Long graduated from Beijing Normal University majoring in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics on a scholarship. She has been working as a Chinese foreign language teacher in universities and training centers for many years. She also worked in Singapore, where she taught secondary students Mandarin.

Ms. Silvia Segura is from Seville, Spain. Silvia has been working as a teacher assistant in different fields since 2000. She has completed numerous courses and workshops related to special education. She previously lived in Dubai where she worked as an assistant teacher with a group of autistic children in grade 1, and teaching Spanish language. She has extensive experience and knowledge in nursing.  Her hobbies include trekking, cooking Spanish food (especially paella) and flying falcons with her husband. She has 2 children at WISS.

Daniela is from Chile and has taught in international schools in Latin America, Europe and Asia, where she has worked both as an Early Years and Primary Years Teacher, as well as holding some leadership positions. Daniela also participates in the International Baccalaureate as a Workshop Leader, Site Visitor, Consultant, and Online Workshop Facilitator. She is passionate about inquiry teaching and learning in the Early Years and enjoys witnessing young children’s growth and development, challenging them every step of the way. Daniela loves reading, technology and blogging, and especially traveling around the world with her husband and son.

Sharon Song graduated from Three Gorges University with a Bachelor Degree in English Linguistic Literature in 2005 where she was also awarded a Diploma in Teaching. She is an experienced teacher, having taught at both Public and International schools. She is enthusiastic about teaching children, especially when seeing how their knowledge grows. Sharon likes to share her love of dancing and singing with the children and feels very proud of their accomplishments in school productions. She enjoys telling stories and traveling. Tahu is  from New Zealand and has worked as a PYP Kindergarten homeroom teacher in Doha, Qatar. He attained his Degree in Early Childhood Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Bilingual Education from Canterbury University. He has over ten years of experience teaching from Nursery through to Kindergarten. Tahu is joined at WISS by his wife Sharon and his two children Beth and Tiaki. He likes to spend his spare time on a rugby field coaching and playing. In between games he likes to read and explore the local sights.

Victoria is from the UK. She has been living in Shanghai since August 2011. Previous to this, Victoria has been teaching in London and Cornwall, where she taught children aged between 3-11 years. Victoria has vast experience in Early Years, and has a wide range of curriculum models and pedagogical approaches. Back in the UK, Victoria trained as a forest school specialist and is a big advocate of the outdoors, and of the environment being a third educator. Victoria graduated from Roehampton University with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in 2011.

Ruth is from Virginia in the United States, which she called home until she moved to Spain to study. She graduated with a B.A. in Spanish Language and Literature and went on to further her Spanish ability in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer. She was placed in the education sector, and it was there that she fell in love with teaching. Ruth moved to Shanghai in 2012 where she taught at a bilingual pre-school while completing her teaching certificate and Masters in Elementary Education. Ruth enjoys running, socializing, and traveling. She believes her profession is the most fun one there is!

Ayuki graduated from Manshan Teachers College with a major in pre-school education.  She holds a certificate for both Pre-school Teaching and Mandarin Teaching.  Ayuki previously taught Mandarin within an international school for six years.  In the classroom she encourages students to voice their opinions and to approach learning in a positive way.  She believes that learning should be personalized and that listening to the children is a very important part of this.  Ayuki is also interested in socializing with friends, learning more about different cultures and being compassionate towards others.  She enjoys working with children and dedicates her time to educating them and learning from them.

Noel is originally from Ireland but moved to Cambridge, England where he worked and studied for 13 years. While studying at Cambridge, Noel gained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in combined English and Film. Noel has subsequently completed a PGCE and MA in International Education. He has been working as a teacher, in a variety of age groups, from Reception to First Grade since 2006. Noel strives to bring out the most in students so they can become independent, life-long learners. Noel is joined at WISS by his son Marcus.

Mark was born in London, England. He trained to become a teacher at the University of East London in England where he specialised in teaching children from the ages of 3-7. He has taught Early Years in England, Sudan, South Korea and Hong Kong. During these different placements he has been exposed to a diverse range of teaching methodologies. Mark is also a keen football fan and likes to practice Qi Gong in his spare time.

Ms Sharon Yang is originally from Sichuan province in the southwest of China. Sharon believes that every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. As such, she encourages them by establishing positive relationships and providing enabling environments for them in their daily life. Melissa comes from Singapore and has been working in international school settings since 2011. She earned her degree from Monash University in Early Childhood Education. Given her experience in international educational settings, she extended her teaching practice to Shanghai in 2014. Lisa is from Wales and gained a B.Ed Primary (Honours) at the University of Gloucestershire. She began her teaching career in London and has since taught EAL learners in both Primary and Secondary schools in addition to College and University in the UK. Lisa enjoys travel and has previously taught in Japan and the Philippines. On returning to the UK, she worked as an Education Authority School Improvement Advisor for EAL. Missing Asia, she moved with her family to Shanghai in 2011 and was Head of EAL at an international school before joining WISS. Lisa is enthusiastic about teaching EAL within the PYP curriculum; encouraging and supporting the language acquisition of those children new to English within the WISS community.

Denise Malheiro is the fifth generation of teachers in her family. Years ago, after having her daughters, Denise decided to turn her interest in child development into a career. She completed her teacher training to gain a qualified status on Early Years Education and Pre-school practices in Miami, USA. Denise has a strong passion for the process of language acquisition and it ignited an interest in teaching EAL. Prior joining WISS, Denise worked in several other schools in the USA, Brazil and here in China. This is the second time for the Malheiro’s family in China. Denise and her family are greatly enjoying Shanghai all over again!   Denise volunteers at WISS Saturday School teaching English to our local community children and it has been a wonderful way of creating lifelong memories of China and its people!!”

Jose is from Spain. He has worked for 20 years in school counseling and special education in a variety of environments, from public and private schools in Spain to international schools in the Middle East.  Jose has a Master’s degree in Education and PhD in Social Psychology. He is married and has two sons at WISS. His love for falconry, as the bond of brotherhood between peoples and intangible heritage of humanity, led him to use falconry as an educational resource for students with socio-emotional problems.

Vanessa Avery is from Australia and brings almost two decades of classroom teaching and learning support experience to WISS. Vanessa has a Bachelor of Arts with Diploma of Education, Majoring in Special Education. Vanessa loves working with children and helping to unlock their creativity and potential. She loves creating supportive learning environments to encourage children to thrive and grow. Vanessa has worked across a variety of school settings, from remote Aboriginal communities to inner city Sydney. Her time at The Korowal School in the Blue Mountains developed her understanding and appreciation for the importance of educating the whole human being. Vanessa is joined by her three sons and husband.

Adi is an experienced Rhythm and Movement specialist and has been teaching music to young scholars since 2006. She started her musical career with 3 years of professional studies at the Rimon school of Jazz and contemporary music majoring in Vocals, following that with a BA (Hons) in musicology and teacher certification studies in Israel. Adi is finalizing her theses on Beethoven’s piano sonatas. She likes singing, swimming and Indian food. Her favorite phrase is “Music is what feelings sound like.”

Cheilaugh Garvey is the Early Years Art Teacher at WISS. She grew up in Japan, Germany and Italy as well as in several states.  She graduated from Boston University in Massachusetts with a B.F.A. in Design and Photography and an M.A. in Arts Education from Columbia University in New York City. She has spent most of her teaching career in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, but most recently in Tunisia.  When she is not in the classroom, you can find her exploring the world’s back roads, visiting historical sites, taking photographs and trying new foods.  Her very creative and talented son Cooper is also part of the WISS family.

From Canada, Colleen Kelly brings a vast amount of experience as a PYP Early Years specialist as well as her knowledge and experience of China. She is a former PYP Coordinator who greatly respects the philosophies of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and the influence it has had on her teaching style as well as her outlook on life. Colleen holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics as well as a Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Colleen enjoys all creative activities and has taken a special interest in Asian art such as Asian Batiks and oil paintings.

Andeena Walsh is from New Zealand, but grew up in sunny Australia. During her time abroad she has lived in Venezuela and China. She holds a TESOL certification, a Certificate III in Early Childhood, and is currently furthering her education in Early Childhood. Andeena has been an Early Childhood educator for Pre-Nursery through to Pre-Kindergarten students for over 15 years, and is happy to be part of the WISS community along side her husband Noel, and children: Arianna and Marcus. During her free time you can find her baking cupcakes or making a creative mess. She enjoys getting messy and creative by engaging her students through exploration and inquiry.

Erkin is from Uzbekistan and has worked for ten years at Tashkent International School, six of which have been with the IB PYP program. His qualifications include a Bachelor Degree attained at the Uzbek State Institute of Physical Culture and a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning from Westminster University in Tashkent. He obtained a Certificate in Educational Technology from Michigan State University.  He is passionate about sports and having an active life style and promotes this amongst his students and the faculty he works with.

Ms. Angela Xu is from Dalian but she has been living in Shanghai since 2005.  Following on from being awarded a bachelor’s degree Angela has worked in Imandarin and Panda Chinese as a Mandarin teacher. She has a lot of experience teaching Mandarin.  She has created her own business for teaching mandarin too.  Angela is glad to be a part of WISS.  She likes to understand more about how natural elements can be used to enhance our health. Jessica is from Nanjing.  She received her degree in Education with Psychology in England.  Jessica is thrilled to be a part of WISS  which is complementary to her Bachelor Honours degree at Bath University. Jessica enjoys working on photography and digital design projects in her spare time. She is also keen to learn and live a healthy lifestyle. She is beyond happy to work with young children in an international community in Shanghai.
