Western International School of Shanghai turned festive on Friday, December 5th for its annual Christmas charity party. The holiday event was focused on supporting three major charities: Coleurs de Chine, Half the Sky and Heart to Heart.

Parents could purchase a craft “passport” for their children to participate in a number of different activities around the school. There was also a photo shoot with Santa, as well as a raffle. Over 30 organizations and individuals contributed a variety of raffle prizes, including memory sticks from TP Link, a Phillips juicer from City Weekend, a Christian Dior handbag from LVMH Watch & Jewelry, an iPod from Sodexho Corporation, 2 HP desktop computers from QTS, Champagne from Metro, school bags and toys from Toys R Us and many other fabulous items.
Parents also baked a variety of delicious treats for a bake sale, which sold out completely. Helene Ballon, one parent from the baking team, noted,” All the mums were felling very happy to contribute to a charity through their cookies…As Christmas goes with sharing and making everybody happy, I’m a 100% sure that it was a very thoughtful idea to bake to raise some money…A ‘heart thing’ that is meaningful. ” All proceeds raised will go to Coleurs de Chine to help establish a school for Miao minority in Guangxi Province. WISS has been working with Coleurs de Chine by sponsoring 6 Miao minority girls since last year. WISS school board demonstrated their full support by contributing food, materials, and decorations for this wonderful party.
Right after the Christmas celebration, WISS is set to participate in this year’s Chinese New Year charity project which will take the form of supporting an earthquake damaged school in
There’s no doubt that the generosity and compassion the WISS community have been manifesting will take the edge off the upcoming winter chills. Director, Dr. Alfonso Orsini stated, “We have been doing this kind of fundraiser for three years now, and every year I am more and more proud of our wonderful community, a great group of caring individuals.”
