Phuket 007

Thailand is a very fascinating country. It has a slightly conservative culture which doesn’t interfere with the development of the country. There is a diversity of historic and modern sights to see. In Bangkok, the Wat Pho Temple is the birth place of Thai massage. Although most of the temple is based on Thai massage techniques, the most stunning object in the temple is the amazingly large Reclining Buddha. It is gold plated, 46 meters long and 15 meters high.

There are also amazing shopping malls which simply cannot be found in Shanghai. The malls are all huge and contain stores that sell almost anything you can think of. From electronics to cosmetics, malls in Thailand are definitely worth a visit. I recommend the Central World in Bangkok. You can shop for Thai knick-knacks and buy electronics. Then there are various restaurants to eat in.

Phuket has a much more relaxing atmosphere than Bangkok. And something you have to do is take the James Bond Island tour. James Bond Island was named after the James Bond movie, “The Man with the Golden Gun”. Although I was not very fond of James Bond Island itself, it is a very small portion of the tour. The rest of the time the ship takes you to a few islands where you canoe through beautiful caves and swim in the ocean. It will take you an entire day and make sure not to be late in the morning because the driver that takes you to the pier will scream at you.

If after all this action you just want to relax, Thailand is excellent for that. Phuket had the softest sand that I had ever stepped on and the cleanest ocean that I had ever swum in. And the sun is not too bad so you won’t feel too hot. From what I saw the hotel employees were all quite friendly and efficient. My main issue was the swimming pool at the hotel. It was not set up as a relaxing holiday pool; it was more like an Olympic pool. In most of the parts of the pool the water was at least 2 meters deep and it just got deeper. That was very disappointing.

Thailand is a place which should be visited. It is very nice and relaxing but it is also not all very rural or undeveloped. But let me give you some advice, before you confirm your hotel booking, ask about the swimming pool.
