Dianshan Lake Festival

By WISS Admin | October 14, 2009

By Cameron Gribbon, Kim Kerremans and Mieneke Jongert, Grade 5 students

On Monday, September 28th, we went to the Dianshan Lake Festival to do a performance with our class.  After school we got dressed in our clothes for the dance and practiced in the gym.  We wore a blue expo shirt with dark pants and gloves that looked like Haibao, the Shanghai 2010 Expo mascot.  After that we got to go on a special bus to the festival.  It was very exciting.  When we got to the festival, the stage was outside.  We had all thought it was going to be inside, but it wasn’t.

We went to the stage and saw lots of people sitting on small plastic stools.  We sat down and practiced our dance again.  Then we went inside the big building beside the stage.  WISS Grade 4s and Grade 5s had a whole room to ourselves.  We ate some food and just played around while we waited.  Then we had to go back outside to sit on the stools and wait for the festival to begin.

People started coming and sitting down.  Then people came up to the front and started speaking in Chinese.  One by one all the shows went by as people came up to the stage to dance and sing.  Finally, it was our turn.  We got our gloves on and the music started.  We did the dance right where we were sitting, alongside lots of other people.  It was so fun to dance in front of the audience!
