On Tuesday June 23, the students and teachers alike at WISS spent the morning participating in a variety of games and activities such as ping pong ball relays, “egg and spoon” relays and other such games. The Primary students enjoyed making good use of the new gymnasium facilities which provided a wonderful space out of the heat of the day.
The afternoon saw the entire school gather on the field to be treated to a superb display of athleticism from the
Middle School students during their high jump demonstration. A number of Middle School students soared high to clear the bar with some of the more senior boys sailing over heights of up to 1.45 meters much to the delight of the onlookers from the younger years. The Grade 4 and Grade 5 students then put on a skillful demonstration of ball games. Spectators including the parents cheered as competition heated up during games of “Captain Ball”, “Leader Ball” and “Tunnel Ball”.
Time then came for the running of the WISS “Big Race”. Starting with Nursery students in the Early Years Program and extending in distance with each older grade, the students participated in a distance race. As the course varied with each year level, the spectators cheered on as the runners sped around different areas of the school grounds. The students ran with gusto, and the participation and enthusiasm was second to none.
The emphasis of the day was on fun and participation. Going by the smiles on the faces and the cheers from the crowed, it is certain that the goals of the day were achieved with all having a very enjoyable time and no doubt looking forward already to next year’s carnival.
