On Saturday June 13th the Grade 2 students from WISS were welcomed at URBN Hotel’s Green Garden Wonderland to educate guests on issues such as sustainability, recycling and environmentally friendly practices which the Grade 2s have been investigating in their Unit of Inquiry. URBN Hotel is China’s first carbon-neutral hotel, using recycled and locally sourced materials and incorporating environmentally friendly concepts.

Following on from their learning, Grade 2 students felt passionate about promoting the need for recycling, reusing and reducing at home, school, and with the wider community. URBN’s General Manager, Nicholas Parkinson-Bates was enthusiastic about the students involvement, stating “ the participation of WISS students really enhanced the atmosphere on the day.

WISS parents were also supportive of the community event. “Our children are tomorrow’s citizen and this is part of our job as parents to help them to be aware of the planets environmental issues,” said Grade 2 WISS parent Helene Ballon. “My 7 year old son felt a connection to the wider community through his involvement in this event at URBN. It was a wonderful opportunity for him to practice and promote going green in the community!”

Local businesses that make efforts to go green in unique ways were also featured with over 15 exhibitors taking part in the project on the day. To find out more about URBN Hotel, please visit www.urbnhotels.com
