Back to School

By WISS Admin | September 7, 2009

WISS held its Orientation Day for the new school year in the college gymnasium on August 27.

Director Todd Flanagan extended a warm welcome to both returning and new families and shared with the community members the latest developments at the school. The new Arts and Science wing is expected to be finished in a few weeks and will house the school library, computer room, science laboratories and art department.

As part of the plan to develop a rigorous Music Programme, a school-wide instrumental programme will be implemented, enabling PYP and MYP students to learn a variety of instruments such as piano, violin, guitar, bass, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet, drums/percussion and singing. The participating students will have many opportunities to perform throughout the year. A choir and a school orchestra will be formed afterward.

The school will also develop existing space to create a full field and put in place a more comprehensive athletics and physical education programme. The additional playing fields will enable the school to host international competition.

Following the director’s address, Early Years and Primary School Principal Ms. Fiona Johnstone and Secondary School Principal Mr. Tom Kline introduced the faculty members respectively. Students and their families were then led to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers as well as fellow students.
