Chinese Language

In this ever evolving and changing world, with so many people becoming globally mobile, the need for bilingualism is paramount. At WISS all students will study Chinese as an additional language.

WISS uses an adaptation of the two way immersion model in which two languages are emphasized through the presence of two teachers. Chinese language lessons will be taught daily by a fully qualified Chinese teacher. Depending on each student’s ability and experience, the students will learn at different levels. The language program will be further enhanced through school assemblies, performances, presentations and field trips around Shanghai.

The native Chinese speaking teacher works alongside the native English speaking teacher throughout the day. There are numerous occasions to reinforce the learning of functional Chinese for all students. Students learn languages through use such as at lunch, in the playground, in art and music and PE classes.
