Academic Board & Leadership


The School Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and development of the school. An Academic Advisory Board, made up of education experts from across the globe, work closely with key academic staff to oversee and advise on overall policy and direction.


This close relationship ensures that WISS remains a leader in providing quality education to its students and abreast of current educational research and trends.

WISS values and encourages parental involvement, inviting parents to become an integral part of the school community. Their involvement is essential in contributing to and building a community that fosters personal and educational excellence.


WISS Advisory Board Profiles

Dr. Cheng Yan Davis was the first visiting scholar from China to the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education (GSE). Currently she is Vice Dean of the Graduate School and Director of International Programs. She is responsible for such initiatives as the Six Nations Educational Research Project.

Dr. Jerome Murphy is Harold Howe II Professor at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education (HGSE). He served as Dean of the Harvard GSE from 1992- 2001. He has researched educational policy and practices in China, England, Australia, Colombia, and South Africa, and has participated in international conferences on educational issues in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Israel, and Russia.

Dr. John Yip, former Director General of Education in Singapore, also served as the CEO/Executive Director of the Singapore Institute of Management and conceptualized and established the Singapore International School in Hong Kong, on whose foundation board he still serves. Among many honors, he was awarded Singapore's Gold Medal for Public Administration and France's Officier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academique. 

Dr. John De Flaminis is Executive Director of the Penn Center for Educational Leadership. As Superintendent of the Radnor Township School System, one of the best performing systems in the United States, Dr. De Flaminis developed standards-based systems with international benchmarks.

Dr. Alfonso Orsini The founding Director of the Western International School of Shanghai, Alfonso Orsini holds advanced degrees in education and English, including a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University. Dr. Orsini is currently the Head of The International School in Portland, Oregon, a specialist multi-lingual IB World School and is an acknowledged leader in the field of international education. Dr. Orsini was Director of the Emirates National School, Abu Dhabi, Headmaster of the Leysin American School in Switzerland, and was Upper School Principal of Newark Academy, one of the oldest schools in the US.
